Manual Lymph Drainage

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specialized manual therapy that promotes the flow of lymph fluid in the body. It stimulates the lymphatic veins and helps the body eliminate surplus fluid and waste. People with lymphedema, swelling following surgery, or other conditions that cause fluid retention are typically recommended for this therapy.

Welcome to Health & Wellness Physical Therapy, where we offer the best Manual lymph drainage (MLD) therapy to all of our patients. Sometimes referred to as lymphatic massage, our qualified and certified therapists use gentle, rhythmic strokes to move lymph fluid through the body to reduce swelling and improve the function of the immune system. Manual lymph drainage can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Lymphedema
  • Chronic sinusitis
  • Post-operative swelling
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraine headaches

What is Manual Lymph Drainage?

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specialized manual therapy that promotes the flow of lymph fluid in the body. By employing slow, rhythmic motions, it stimulates the lymphatic veins and helps the body eliminate surplus fluid and waste. People with lymphedema, swelling following surgery, or other conditions that cause fluid retention are typically recommended for this therapy.

How is Manual Lymph Drainage Used?

Our therapists may add MLD in a treatment plan along with exercise, cold laser, pulse electromagnetic frequency therapy and kinesiotaping. You can use it as a preventative measure if you are at risk of developing lymphedema.

Benefits of Manual Lymph Drainage

MLD provides a number of benefits for those with lymphatic system issues. It improves general health by improving circulation, boosting the immune system, reducing swelling and discomfort, and lessening inflammation. Additionally, it can enhance the appearance of the skin and hasten the healing process following surgery or injuries.
